Sierra Bernia School seeks to provide a happy working environment in which children of all nationalities can gain academic success. Integration amongst the multi-national and bilingual pupils on roll is encouraged, as is participation in local community events.

Our goal is to prepare pupils for life in the modern world! The “Global Village” makes increasing demands on young people, and the school works hard to ensure that all pupils achieve their full potential. We believe in teaching pupils how to apply their innate abilities to any given task, but to do so with a sense of respect and consideration for others.

Each class has a Tutor who is responsible for pastoral care and the monitoring of pupils with special educational needs at both ends of the spectrum. The small number of pupils in each year group enable the teaching staff to give individual and personalised attention to all pupils.

Infant teaching aims to introduce children to learning through activity and play, developing self awareness, social skills, and confidence, through work in a lively and supportive atmosphere.

The Junior year groups cover a broad range of subjects with emphasis on the skills required in Mathematics, Languages, the Humanities, and Sciences.

The Secondary education curriculum is directed towards British examinations: the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE), the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and GCE ‘A’ levels.

Attention is given to the needs of pupils who wish to enter further or higher education, either in Spain or in other countries, after they have achieved success at the IGCSE level.

Pupils are encouraged to consider future careers at an early age; in the past pupils have successfully gained College and University places in both Europe and the USA.20
